[ It's kind of becoming tradition to meet in the game room after the coffins show up. The familiarity is a small comfort.
But only a small one. Madoka doesn't make it to take a proper seat. She enters the game room and quickly leans against the wall, sliding down to sit. She realizes belatedly that this is probably a little worrying to see, and offers Yu a small smile. ]
[ He'd been seated, waiting for her, something small and colorful in his hands--
But when she enters and sinks down like that he'll startle to his feet, dropping whatever he'd been holding to swiftly kneel in front of her, instead. ]
[ Madoka takes the time to find Yu - she may not have been close with Rachel, but she can tell how hard he's taking this and worries about leaving anyone alone in that mindset. Especially not someone who drinks crime scene evidence when there was a poisoning and also a suicide attempt (via poisoning).
She steps up to him and sets her hand on his arm, gently. ]
[ He doesn't have an answer for her. Not a verbal one. He's so calm by the time she finds him, he's shoved all that pain so deep down you can't see it anywhere but his eyes, and then only if you look hard.
But he's completely lost for words, and that's probably answer enough. ]
[ That's fair... Madoka hesitates by his side for a moment longer, then gives him a tentative hug. She doesn't expect him to hug back - and it's light. She's ready to step back if he tenses up or rejects it at all. ]
I'm sorry about your friend. I tried to vote for someone else.
[ He doesn't, no. He doesn't tense up or push her away.
In the end, he drops a hand on her head, gentle. ]
I did, too. In the end, there was only one god I could vote for, and I'll have to apologize to her, too.
We all tried our hardest. Ambition... [ God. He remembers her sobs, and his heart just breaks worse. ] ... in the end, I don't think we arrived at the right answer. That's the part that hurts the worst.
[ Madoka has been giving everyone their space after this trial. It's hard to wrap her head around someone hurting others and look so carefree about it. It's... Villainous, and she's just not used to that. It's different from just participating in the contest.
Still, she eventually makes her way to the game room, where she takes a familiar seat across from Yu. ]
He's ... back to his usual self by now, outside of the fact that he looks like beat up hell. Newt split his lip. If anything, he's noticeably more reserved than he'd usually be. ]
Thanks to Ray-san. Without him, we would have been guessing blindly.
[ Three guesses where they are and the first two don't count. AKA it's the game room. Madoka is sitting in one of the chairs at a table, still wearing her fancy clothes from the trial. Her skirt is carefully tucked under her knees which are pulled to her chest - which probably looks a little silly when she's at a table and not on, like, a couch, but whatever.
She gives Yu a moment to settle in silence, then speaks up gently. ]
... He wanted peace, and the person he hurt had killed other people... But we still had to...
[ Yu is still dressed to the nines, too, though he's carrying his suit jacket over his shoulder as he walks in. Even though he managed to recover from his protag BSOD before the end of the trial, he's still very pale with exhaustion and, honestly, grief.
He sees her there, all curled up small in her chair ... and he'll move towards her, to gently wrap the suit jacket around her shoulders. Only then will he take a seat. ]
... I know. From the very beginning, this contest has been a cruel thing.
[ softly: ] It's almost over. And maybe ... there will be a way after all, to grand everyone's wishes.
[ With his jacket draped around her, Madoka lowers her legs to sit down in the chair like a normal person. She reaches up and tugs it around her tighter, comforted by the small weight. ]
Does that everyone include the people who have already died?
