[ She looks at Madoka sharply. Nonon is insensitive on purpose. The only way she's good at riling people up is if she can read them. ]

It's not about need. It's about want. What we're doing tonight is about what we want to do. [ She lets that hang for a second before moving on. ] I like that idea. We can paint nails while listening to good music.

[ When they reach the Beauty Salon, she waves Madoka to wherever all the masks are kept. ]

[ She takes this to mean that Nonon wants to get all made up, which she is fine with!!

[ She points to random beauty tools. ]

Make sure to get a brush or little spatula if you're not doing a sheet mask. It'll make it easier for you.

[ Nonon picks a sheet mask to try to rejuvenate life in her skin to combat how life-sucking the trial was. ]

I'm thinking red. Bold and daring. What about you?

[ Madoka hums, and picks a sheet mask too, because that seems the easiest... ]

Umm... [ she looks down at her hands to inspect her nails... one of them already has? a little pink symbol on it?? ]

Pink, probably.

[ This is the night for taking things easy. Nonon puts on her sheet mask and looks ridiculous.

She peers over when Madoka looks down at her nails. ]

Oh? What's that?

[ Madoka talks while she's putting on her own mask, and for convenience goes ahead and pulls her hair out of pigtails and into a ponytail instead. ]

It's a mark that magical girls get. I never thought about it much before, but I think it's fine to just paint over it.

[symphonise]

[ Nonon finds a comfortable chair to take a seat and waves at Madoka to do the same. ]

If you want to leave it showing, that's fine, too, but I wanted to ask about that. What kind of magical girl are you? Your statue said something about being Law of Cycles?

[ Two weeks here is enough for her to start believing and accepting most things. Probably. ]

[ Honestly Madoka probably should have waited two weeks before just telling people about herself, but she's been pretty open about it from the get-go, oops. ]

Mm. It's kind of a long story, but um... I was a regular magical girl... [ whatever that means ] For a lot of timelines? But now I'm kind of different.

[ What is two weeks to the Law of Cycles? ]

Well - magical girls become magical girls in exchange for a wish. My best friend wished to be able to repeat time. So... It was a little complicated.

It sounds a lot complicated. [ Very deadpan. ]

Homura-chan kept going back to before I made my wish, so there were a lot of them. Wishing to revive a stray cat, or wishing just to be a magical girl - to be useful...

Magical girls fight witches, but magical girls also become witches. That's the cycle. So, my final wish was erase all witches before they're created, with my own hands. S-so, um... I'm the law that sees them off so that they just pass away peacefully, instead.

[ Nonon's brain isn't really wrapping around the concept of timeloops or time paradoxes very well. It's beyond her comprehension right now. Give her a moment as the cogs turn.

When the understanding comes, her expression darkens. ]

Did you know you'd turn into a witch when you made a wish to become a magical girl?

[ Her voice is clipped. ]

[ ... These days, she understands where Kyuubey was coming from - and why what he was doing was necessary. Why it was 'right' to his race. But at the same time, she still hasn't forgiven his original methods. ]

[ Nonon isn't the most intelligent person in any room, but she can connect dots easily enough. ]

[ For a moment, Nonon sees a flash of someone dear to her in Madoka. It's a realization that squeezes her heart, and she peels off her sheet mask. ]

That's admirable, but are you happy?

I am.

[ it isn't a lie. even if it's hard, it's the right thing to do. and the fact that it's worth it - that she's doing something good and useful... that makes her happier than anything. ]

[symphonise]

Okay.

[ And Nonon does seem to accept that. ]

You remind me a little of someone I know... who would shoulder whatever she could to do what she thinks is best to achieve what she thinks is worthwhile.

[ She smiles, and there's genuine fondness in it. ]

Your personalities on the surface aren't that similar, though.

[ it's embarrassing to be sort of praised... ]

Yeah, you both want to do something good for the world at the expense of yourself.

[ Nonon grabs more skincare items to put on her face like an essence. Even as she pats it on her face, there's no hiding the devotion that laces her voice. ]

Satsuki-chan is beautiful. She's built a magnificent castle in her heart that can't be torn down by anyone. She's the type that makes contigency plans for her contingency plans.

[ Madoka mimics what Nonon is doing, because honestly... she just isn't used to this sort of thing... So it's comforting to have a lead to follow. ]

She sounds amazing. I'm nowhere near that special - I'm not very good at planning, and I'm really helpless when I'm on my own.

That wish of yours makes you sound like you're by yourself. Was I wrong?

[ It's an offhand question without any pointed needling, but Nonon is also unfortunately always ready to talk about Satsuki Kiryuuin. ]

Satsuki-chan is amazing, but she's not alone. [ Because she's there. As are their select group of friends. ] When she was a lot younger, she used to be more like you. Sweet and docile. So it's not like you can't get there if you want to.

[ Madoka is very into talking about Not Madoka right now, so she just idly nods to that question and brushes it off too to focus on this Satsuki person. ]

Ehh, really? How inspiring.

Not being alone is impressive in its own way - it means she has good, um, leadership skills. Right? Even when I wasn't alone, I wasn't a leader at all. I was always following someone else.
