She's a great leader, and she knew how to scout the right people to help her. We're a good team. [ Nonon has never sounded this soft. ] You had your best friends, right? Tell me about them.

My best friend is Homura-chan! She's really cool and smart...! And then there's Sayaka-chan, Kyouko-chan, and Mami-san.

[ Madoka is sooo happy and content right now; this is sapping out the stress from her much better than any face mask or self care routine. ]

When I met her, Homura-chan was really shy, and her body was weak, too. But she fought really hard, for a really long time, just for me. She got so strong, and she was smart and resourceful...

Even when I didn't realize how much she was doing for me, and even when I couldn't be there for her, she kept doing her best.

Everything I did was thanks to her hard work, not my own.

[ Well, then Nonon is accomplishing her goal. ]

It sounds like she really cares for you. Not many people would change like that for just anyone. But what do you mean everything you did was thanks to her, not you?

... Talking about it always gets kind of complicated. But...

[ it's not like she minds, it's just that people usually seem confused. ]

Homura-chan's power was to go back in time, and she was dedicated to trying to protect me. That's what gave me so much potential as a magical girl - hundreds of timelines were connected, all centered around... Me. I was able to make a very powerful wish to rewrite the laws of the universe, but only because of what she did.

[ If Nonon were a science nerd, she'd liken this to potential energy, but she's not! So Madoka's right in that Nonon doesn't understand it all, but she does get the essence of it. ]

Her love for you made you powerful, but have you considered that you could've given her the strength and the reason to do all that? In friendship, in love, things aren't so one-sided like that. It's a two way street, if you two love each other, and it does sound like you love her.

[ People draw Nonon in Madoka's magical girl outfit all the time, but she's more Homura-kin. ]

Of course I love her - Homura-chan is my best friend in the world.

But I didn't always know that. In a lot of timelines I didn't know her at all. I couldn't support her.

Nonon is 99% sure Homura is in love with Madoka, and she believes Madoka believes in her feelings of friendship. ]

You made it so she didn't have to keep going back in time, but you're now separated.

Well... Then there's Sayaka-chan. She was my best friend before Homura-chan... She's still one of my best friends, of course.

She's funny, and brave, and a little bit stubborn, but she always fights for justice...!

For justice, huh? That's a lofty goal.

It was a little too lofty, sometimes. But we both thought it was best to let her stay true to herself.

She probably doesn't remember, but we talked about it when I rewrote the laws of the universe.

Then there's Kyouko-chan. We didn't always get along, but Kyouko-chan made me realize that - sometimes people just need extra time and care, and they can be your friend, too. She's really strong, and much kinder than she seems.

Oh, there's someone you don't try to get along with at first? I'm curious. What happened?

There used to be a lot of competition for... Resources. Between magical girls. So a lot of times they would claim territory for themselves, which meant fighting between each other happened a lot...

The first time we met Kyouko-chan, she wanted to take over the area we were in.
