I think part of the problem is that... The problem we're working to resolve for the gods is almost completely separate from the contest itself.

And for the rest of us, even knowing who one of the killers was this week, we didn't know his alignment either...
And yet, people continue to kill indiscriminately. Even though murder was never an obligatory part of this competition. [It's, you know, back.] We can't even say for certain that whoever has aligned themselves with one god today, will still be part of their following tomorrow.
